Project summary: Emodiscovery is part of a large project aimed at studying children’s skills to regulate the emotions of others with a special emphasis on comparing children without any developmental delays and children with Asperger or high functioning autism.
Award: Santander Postgraduate Internalisation Scholarship (£1500)
Project overview: with Emodiscovery we aim to carry out and assess children’s interpersonal emotion regulation tendencies. The way people regulate the emotions of others is extremely relevant as it may impact social interactions and relationships. In fact, previous research has shown how effective interpersonal emotion regulation may be a vital component for developing high-quality relationships in adulthood . Therefore, relying on instruments or apps such as Emodiscovery could be benefitial not only to assess children’s emotion regulation strategies but also to train them with the use of appropriate strategies for different emotional situations. We believe this could be useful for children in general and children with difficulties on emotion regulation such as children with high functioning Autism or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
